Situated in the beautiful North Yorkshire market town of Richmond, Richmondshire Cricket Club is at the heart of the local community

Richmondshire Cricket Club

Founded in 1837, Richmondshire Cricket Club plays its cricket in the North Yorkshire South Durham (NYSD) ECB Premier League, winning the league in 1995, 2012 and 2013, accumulating the highest number of points in NYSD history in the 2013 campaign success.

The 1st XI is led by club professional Gary Pratt, who famously ran out Ricky Pointing in the 2005 Ashes Series, and has less famously had a very successful minor counties career since. Most of the amateurs are local, many of whom developed through the club's junior section.

With six men’s teams turning out every week, we are one of the largest clubs in the North East.

Richmondshire Cricket Club is respected and admired for leading the way in the development of Junior and Female cricket, with nearly 200 boys and girls enjoying cricket right throughout the year. Our U15 girls won the national indoor championship at Lords on 7 May 2014.

Richmond Cricket Foundation

Richmondshire Cricket Club and Richmond School have set up what is believed to be the first Cricket Foundation in the state school sector, delivering coaching throughout the district and beyond, and building a brand new cricket pitch on school grounds in time for the 2016 season. Richmond School has recently build a state-of-the-art sports pavilion, which will aid education and cricket.

The quality of cricket at the school is already on a par with the very best public schools in the country, and the Cricket Foundation will not just help talented individuals to develop their skills but - just as importantly - encourage hundreds of boys and girls to take up this wonderful sport.

At the Heart of the Community

Richmondshire Cricket Club is right at the heart of the local community and has strong relationships with town and district councils, primary and secondary schools and the British Army at Catterick Garrison.

Each year we host a range of events raising money for charity: ABF U11 Festival,  raising money for ABF The Soldiers’ Charity; Duck Club races on May Bank Holiday; local Fire Service events; and many others.

Best beer garden in Richmond

The club is open all year, but really comes to life in the summer months when it is the best beer garden in Yorkshire.

Where else can you sit with a pint of beer or a glass of chilled wine, watching high quality cricket with a backdrop as stunning as the Friary Gardens and Richmond Castle?
