Richmondshire batted first against a team expected to be stronger with the bat than the ball. The Middlesbrough bowling certainly didn't look much good from a distance as we scored 175 for 4, with Owen Kelly retiring on 50, Sam Winter scoring 32, Josh Dowson 22, Matthew Price 27 and Toby Lush 21 not out.
When Middlesbrough came out to bat they started at great pace, with 4 overs gone there were 38 runs on the board for no wicket and I was getting worried. However, in that fourth over, they lost their first wicket, from then on the scoring rate slowed and wickets started falling with some regularity. Mark Walker conceded only nine runs off his four overs and both Toby Lush and Harvey Websdale picked up 2 wickets. Harvey missed the opportunity to pick up a 3rd wicket and get his name in the paper when the umpire called over with one ball left in the match and Middlesbrough on 88 for 7, only halfway to the Richmondshire total.
At the presentation, both captains made speeches. In writing this sentence, I have used more words than the two of them put together. An excellent performance, thankyou to Nigel Winter for managing the team this year. Next U17 trophy opportunity will be the 15 over finals day on Bank Holiday weekend.
