4th XI game abandoned without a ball bowled

5th XI beat East Cowton II by 9 wickets

Match report by 5th team correspondent Jim While:

The fifths picked up 20 points at East Cowton with what turned out to be a very easy win against opponents much better at batting than bowling. On an early season wicket that was in very good condition considering recent weather, Jim While elected to bowl first. Even though Cowton opener Mulholland batted the full 40 overs, Cowton were restricted to 127 for 8, with former Richmondshire junior John Clarke being the only player to bat with fluency. The best bowling came from the metronomic Sam Potter with 3 for 29 from his 10 overs and Ryan Campbell with a miserly spell of 2 for 8 in 7 overs. As soon as Richmondshire batted, it became obvious that bowling was not the Cowton forte, as good balls were mixed randomly with full tosses and wides. Mike Irving cruised to an easy fifty, partnered initially by his son James and then David Bulmer. The runs were knocked off in the 21st over, ably assisted by extras which totalled 35.
