Richmondshire Cricket Club - News Letter

10th July 2017
Update letter to members and supporters
Dear Member/Supporter, As I promised this is my second newsletter of the year trying to keep all of you updated on progress, what’s gone on and what is planned in the club over the coming months. As I stated previously my goal as Chairman with the aid of the management committee and staff is to get our club into a more financially sustainable position. Well the new committee have been in place for seven months and it’s been a challenge to say the least but I can say we have had several positive outcomes, we have taken some hard decisions in relation to membership and the members discount scheme but those decisions needed to be taken and will be of benefit to the club over the coming years. The new gas boiler and heaters were installed in the bottom of the club, again a real positive step which will hopefully last for many years to come. We have also eventually come to an agreement with all parties on the internal set up of the club, it took several steps to get there but we eventually did get there and I think all are now more than happy.  We have also expanded the 100 club to the 150 club which was very pleasing. Two major setbacks, the first being the resignation of our club secretary Andy Barlow due to work commitments but I am happy to report that Jim While has agreed to take over this role from September. The second setback being the wind damage to the Victoria Road fence line.  Due to this damage, we have had to renew the worse areas of damage and it is planned in September to renew all the length. However, to do this we have had to apply for planning permission from our local planning department which is ongoing at present. My thanks to Colin Dring, Mark Jobling and John Deighton for helping repair the fence line.  The cricket season is now halfway through and I am pleased to report that all teams both senior and junior sections are having very competitive seasons.  The 1st team currently are third in the NYSD Premier league, were runners up in the Macmillan cup and have reached the final of the Kerridge cup. They are also through to the next stage of the 15/15 competition. The 2nd team are also third in the 1st Division of the NYSD league which for a second team is an amazing position to be in.  However, it is with sadness that I report that the 2nd team captain Tom Stockton will be leaving the club having been offered a job in Dubai.  Tom will be a great loss to the senior and junior sections but we wish him all the best in this new venture. The 3rd team who play in the 1st Division of the NYSD League are also flying and are currently top of their league and have reached two cup finals which is a brilliant achievement. The 4th team are joint second at present which again is another brilliant achievement after just avoiding relegation for the last few years. The 5th team are currently in the middle section of their league which is very creditable as they went up into this league last year. The under 17 side are again having a very strong season coming top of their league, they have won one cup final and are looking forward another final hopefully soon.  The under 15 team are mid-table, when the strongest players are not playing higher level cricket, they are a match for any side. Under 15 players Tom Dowson and James Kelly are already regulars for the men’s 2nd XI. At under 13 level we have been fielding teams in two leagues. The North Yorkshire Area Cricket Council team is currently in second place in the league, the Hambleton League team is mid table. The under 11 team, have so far won 7 and lost 3 games, putting them fourth in the league. Last season, the club ran an under 9 team for the first time, as last year, our youngest team is at the top of their league, they have to beat North Stainley under 11 girls in their last fixture to win the league.

At the very youngest end of the age range, we have been taking part in the ECB All-stars cricket initiative, for which 41 new juniors registered, as a result we have had over 100 children at Friday night training sessions.
For more information on how all our sides are doing and what’s going on in the club visit these web sites:
At this point I would introduce to those of you who have not met or seen in action our new overseas professional, Alston Bobb.  Alston has quickly settled into the club and is proving a real asset both on and off the pitch. Strong performances on the field and a real hit with the junior section members he coaches. I wish him well for the remainder of the season.
To run this club, it takes a tremendous amount of effort in respect of fund raising every year. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Randy Orchard and Vanessa Price for their efforts with the 150 club.  Mike Heseltine, Kate Maw and Randy Orchard for their work with the sponsorship boards, membership and friends of the club donations. I would also take this opportunity to thank all our club sponsors and donators for their support.  We as a club are very grateful and could not run this club without your help and financial support. I would ask all members to please support our sponsors where and if you can.  My thanks to our sponsors:
